Supporting Moms: Solving America's Maternal Mental Health Care Crisis

Mothers in the U.S. are in crisis, with one in seven suffering from postpartum depression — and only 15% receiving appropriate treatment.

The NNDC has joined forces with the consumer advocacy group Care for Your Mind — and in collaboration with the DBSA, FFDA, several other professional and patient organizations, and elected officials — launched a groundbreaking new project. This first of its kind collaboration, will educate, engage, and advocate for one of the most significant issues of our time: perinatal mental health care.

Our project — a series titled Supporting Moms: Solving America’s Maternal Mental Health Care Crisis — will cover perinatal mental health from diverse perspectives, and offer real-world solutions to the current epidemic. This nine-part blog series will begin its run on the consumer advocacy group Care For Your Mind blog on February 16th. Care for Your MindThe blog posts are authored by perinatal depression experts and advocates for reform including: Nancy Byatt, DO, MBA;  Tiffany Moore Simas, MD, MPH; Massachusetts Congresswoman Katherine Clark; and mothers and family members with personal experience.

This is only the beginning. As we move forward, we’ll be addressing other vital topics and issues — as well as inviting other organizations to join our efforts. We want to speak to every obstacle that’s keeping patients from achieving better mental health outcomes, and we’d love for you to share your ideas, thoughts, and suggestions with us.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to your participation and insight as we stand together to help millions of mothers in need.
