EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Executive Director Role
The NNDC is recruiting an experienced Executive Director with strong interpersonal skills, creativity, proven leadership talents, and experience in entrepreneurial enterprises. This includes understanding the mechanics of start-up organizations and the skills required to build and sustain an interdisciplinary coalition of researchers, clinicians, educators, and administrators who are at the top of their respective medical and academic fields. The Network is expected to potentially increase in size from its current 16 members to 30 members in five years with accompanying gains in faculty and staff membership and in scope of activities. The Executive Director will have direct responsibility for leading and managing this dynamic new nonprofit venture and must possess the ability to complete the startup work, form the organization, and prepare for the challenges of future growth. The successful candidate will be as comfortable and capable of completing routine daily functions as in serving as a spokesperson and participating in governmental education and advocacy on regional and national levels.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Executive Director will serve as the senior administrator for the NNDC, support the over 150 academic faculty members of the network, and coordinate the activities of the Governing Board, the Executive Committee and various task groups and domain committees.
- Provide financial management and budget oversight
- Recommend policies, procedures and strategic direction for approval by the Governing Board
- Refine and execute strategies and programs as directed by the Board
- Build and coordinate collaborative teams; form task groups; evaluate reports and convey summaries to Executive Committee and Governing Board
- Understand, launch and manage large-scale federally-funded multi-site initiatives related to mood disorders
- Act as liaison with external constituencies including institutional, government, and business leaders, and the public. Domestic travel will be required.
Reporting and Salary
The Executive Director will report directly to the Executive Committee of the Governing Board through the Chair of the Executive Committee. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Qualifications and Application Process
Preferred experience includes: five to ten years management experience in the health care field, preferably academic mental health care; past participation in the start-up of a nonprofit organization; management of or direct experience in fund raising and development for nonprofit organizations (preferably major gifts); leadership in fostering collaborations among academic medical institutions, or with similar partnerships; and experience interfacing with governmental organizations. Prior experience with mental health, depression in particular, is a plus.
Required qualifications include a minimum of a Master’s degree in a business or academic field.
